About the role

Job summary

This position involves research on self-assembling peptide-based biomaterials aimed at improving tendon regeneration through modulation of immune responses. The role is part of an ERC Starting Grant project focused on understanding adhesion, degradation, and immunomodulation properties of these biomaterials.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in immunology, molecular biology, biotechnology, biochemistry, nanotechnology, biomedicine, physical chemistry, or related fields.
  • M.Sc. degree is also required.
  • Experience in immune cell culture and characterization, with at least one significant achievement (publication, thesis, or patent).
  • Familiarity with mammalian cell characterization techniques (e.g., confocal microscopy, ELISAs, flow cytometry).
  • Strong English communication skills, both written and spoken.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team.

Responsibilities

  • Design and characterize new injectable self-assembling peptide biomaterials.
  • Investigate macrophage polarization through functional assays and omics analyses.
  • Evaluate enzymatic degradation pathways and the role of peptide fragments in immune signaling.
  • Utilize advanced imaging techniques to study peptide-macrophage interactions.
  • Supervise B.Sc./M.Sc./Ph.D. students and contribute to teaching and collaborative projects.

Skills

  • Experience with physical chemistry lab work.
  • Hands-on experience with self-assembling peptides or proteins is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with omics analysis and biomaterials characterization techniques.
  • Experience in bioinformatics and biological data analysis is a plus.

Education

  • Required: Ph.D. and M.Sc. in relevant fields.

Tools

  • Techniques include PCR, ELISAs, flow cytometry, mass spectrometry, and various imaging methods.
