Postdoctoral Researcher in Advanced Manufacturing (Composites, Remote)

Job summary

This position seeks a researcher focused on the material physics and manufacturing science of fiber-reinforced polymer composites, particularly in vacuum infusion and preform-based manufacturing of large structures. The role involves experimental investigations and computational modeling to enhance process understanding and quality assurance in composite production.

Qualifications

• PhD degree or equivalent in mechanical engineering, materials science, composite manufacturing, applied mechanics, process modeling, or a related field.
• Experience in manufacturing fiber-reinforced polymer composites and vacuum infusion processes.
• Familiarity with experimental characterization of textile reinforcements and modeling of resin flow in porous media.
• Proficiency in programming and data analysis using tools like Python or MATLAB.
• Strong scientific communication skills in English.

Responsibilities

• Conduct experimental research on dry fiber preforms, focusing on deformation, compaction, and permeability.
• Design and execute vacuum infusion experiments to analyze resin flow and process-induced defects.
• Develop and validate physics-based models for preform behavior and resin infusion.
• Contribute to digital twin and process monitoring methods for defect prediction.
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary European consortium on project deliverables and reports.
• Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals and present at international conferences.
• Mentor MSc and PhD students in relevant fields.

Education
