About the role

Job summary

A 3-year PhD scholarship is available focusing on the experimental study of synthesis, stability, and decomposition mechanisms of molecular active materials for aqueous organic flow batteries. The project aims to develop new organic flow battery electrolytes with enhanced stability through collaborative experimental and computational work.

Qualifications

  • A two-year master's degree (120 ECTS points) or equivalent academic level.
  • Demonstrated aptitude in electrochemistry/electrochemical engineering and synthetic organic chemistry.
  • Experience with analytical methods such as chromatography and NMR is advantageous.
  • Working knowledge of electrochemistry and organic materials at the MSc level is expected.

Responsibilities

  • Investigate the degradation of new types of redox-active organic materials for aqueous flow batteries.
  • Collaborate with computational researchers to integrate experimental insights into predictive frameworks for organic electrolyte degradation.
  • Conduct detailed electrochemical investigations using advanced flow reactors and analytical instruments.
  • Explore low-cost and environmentally friendly synthetic routes for chemical modifications of materials.

Skills

  • Strong background in electrochemistry and organic chemistry.
  • Proficiency in analytical techniques relevant to material characterization.

Education

  • Required: Two-year master's degree or equivalent.

Tools

  • State-of-the-art flow reactors, in-line sensors, and ex-situ analytical instruments.
