About the role

Job summary

This fully funded PhD position focuses on developing safe estimation algorithms that can operate reliably in the presence of mathematical singularities and disconnected parameter spaces. The role is part of the SAFE-T project at the Technical University of Denmark, which combines control theory, topology, machine learning, and robotics.

Qualifications

  • A two-year master's degree (120 ECTS points) or equivalent.
  • Strong analytical skills with a background in control theory, dynamical systems, and applied mathematics.
  • Documented experience in mathematical modeling and estimation for nonlinear systems.
  • Knowledge of optimization and machine learning is advantageous.
  • Programming experience in MATLAB, Python, C++, or similar environments.
  • Excellent communication skills in English.
  • A passion for research and collaboration.

Responsibilities

  • Develop mathematical frameworks for dynamic mapping inversion.
  • Design estimation algorithms to avoid dynamic singularities.
  • Investigate geometric lifting methods for safe estimation.
  • Integrate methods into feedback control and diagnosis architectures.
  • Analyze stability and convergence properties of algorithms.
  • Validate methods through simulations and experiments on robotic platforms.
  • Prepare scientific publications for journals and conferences.
  • Share research findings with professional audiences.
  • Co-supervise BSc and MSc projects related to the PhD project.
  • Assist in teaching BSc and MSc courses.

Education

  • A master's degree in a relevant field is required.

Tools

  • Proficiency in MATLAB, Python, C++, or similar scientific computing environments.
