Job summary

This position offers a 3-year PhD opportunity focused on the evolution of road freight networks under the influences of electrification, road pricing, and automation. The candidate will engage in research that combines modelling, simulation, and data analysis, contributing to a deeper understanding of freight transport dynamics.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree (MSc) in Operational Research, Transport Modelling, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, or a related field.
  • Interest in transport systems or logistics.
  • Experience with data analysis, statistics, or machine learning.
  • Proficiency in at least one scientific programming language, preferably Python.
  • Understanding of optimisation, mathematical programming, economic modelling concepts, and game theory.
  • Strong analytical skills and curiosity about complex systems.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Good written and oral communication skills in English.

Responsibilities

  • Investigate how freight networks are structured and evolve under electrification and road pricing.
  • Collaborate with supervisors and external partners to shape research questions and project scope.
  • Publish results in scientific journals and present findings at conferences.

Skills

  • Modelling and simulation techniques.
  • Data analysis and interpretation.
  • Familiarity with GPS data analysis.

Education

  • A two-year master's degree (120 ECTS points) or equivalent academic level.

Tools

  • Scientific programming languages (preferably Python).
