Job summary

This position offers a 3-year PhD opportunity focused on the integration of artificial intelligence in Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) to enhance sustainability assessments. The role is based in Odense, Denmark, and is part of ongoing EU-funded research initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Relevant MSc degree in environmental engineering, sustainability assessment, industrial ecology, chemical engineering, bioengineering, data science, computer science, or a closely related field.
  • Documented knowledge of Life Cycle Assessment and environmental footprinting.
  • Programming experience in Python, R, MATLAB, or similar tools.
  • Familiarity with artificial intelligence methods and their application in scientific data analysis.
  • Understanding of large language models and associated risks such as hallucinations and bias.
  • Strong English communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and validate AI-assisted workflows for life cycle inventory data.
  • Investigate trustworthy AI applications for quantitative sustainability assessments.
  • Improve data quality assurance and transparency in AI-supported LCA workflows.
  • Design methods to reduce unsupported AI outputs and enhance validation processes.
  • Apply developed methods to relevant sustainability assessment case studies.
  • Document assumptions, data sources, and limitations in AI-assisted assessments.
  • Contribute to scientific publications and collaborate with academic and industrial partners.

Skills

  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a research team.

Education

  • MSc degree in a relevant field as specified in qualifications.

Tools
