Join us as our new Senior Process Scientist

Right now, we are looking for a Senior Process Scientist to join our Live Active Bacteria (LAB) Process Optimization team in Hoersholm. In this role, you will be part of a team of 10 scientists executing impactful projects that improve performance, sustainability, and efficiency in microbial bioprocesses across the food and health industries.

Welcome to LAB Process Optimization

You will be part of the LAB Process Optimization team, turning microbiology into practical solutions that create real-world impact. We work at the intersection of science and production, developing and refining bioprocesses that make production more efficient, sustainable, and scalable.

Working closely with colleagues across Research and Development, Quality, Commercial, and Production, you will lead projects from concept to implementation and help shape the future of our bioprocess pipelines. This empowers you to implement optimized processes at our global production sites together with our local production specialists, and tackle troubleshooting in partnership with global experts.

In this role you’ll make an impact by

You will optimize microbial bioprocesses to improve performance, sustainability, and efficiency. Furthermore, you will contribute to new bioprocess technologies, including advanced process control and in-line measurement systems, while turning data into actionable insights that drive innovation and improvement.
 

As our new colleague in LAB Process Optimization, you are a proactive team player with strong interpersonal and communication skills, confident in speaking up and working independently. You are scientifically curious and comfortable diving into complex challenges while managing multiple projects and stakeholders in a fast-paced environment. You can drive and execute projects with short deadlines that align with the strategic goals of Novonesis.

Your key tasks will include:

  • Drive optimization projects from concept to completion

  • Provide scientific support to global production teams

  • Design, plan, and execute experiments at laboratory, pilot, and production scales

  • Monitor, analyze, and interpret process data using advanced analytical tools

  • Evaluate new technologies and methods

  • Support process scale-up and scale-down activities

  • Create and maintain thorough and accurate experimental documentation

  • Report results at both a deep scientific level and high level

  • Collaborate cross-functionally

  • International travel of 5 – 15 days per year

Potentially relevant experience:

  • A Master’s or PhD degree in Biotechnology, Chemical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, Microbiology, or a related field

  • At least 3 years of experience in the food or pharma industry

  • Hands-on experience with lab- and pilot-scale fermentation systems including bioreactor operation and control strategies, preferably with microbial cells

  • Relevant knowledge and understanding of industrial-scale production equipment (hands-on experience is an advantage)

  • Understanding of scale-up and scale-down principles and bioprocess engineering

  • Experience with data analysis tools such as JMP or Python

  • Knowledge of downstream unit operations (hands-on experience is an advantage)

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and a structured, data-driven approach

  • Experience in performing root-cause analysis to identify and resolve issues

  • Experience leading experimental design and technology transfers to production is an advantage

  • Strong communication skills in English
