The role as Head of Data Engineering

Nilfisk has initiated an ambitious project to develop a new, modern data platform to enable better decisions, scalable analytics, and innovation across the business. We are now looking for a Director, Head of Data Engineering to play a key role in shaping and leading the next phases of this journey. In this role, you will be responsible for establishing and evolving our data engineering capabilities, ensuring reliable, secure, and high‑quality data products that support Nilfisk employees globally. Working at the intersection of technology, business, and leadership, you will help turn data into a true enterprise asset in collaboration with key stakeholders.

This position is based in our headquarters in Copenhagen, reporting to the VP, Head of Data and Business Analytics. You will manage a team of data engineers primarily placed in our office in Budapest, manage external consultants when required and work closely with business stakeholders within and outside Denmark. While we use Teams for most meetings you should expect a few trips primarily to visit your team in Budapest

Essential Responsibilities

• Lead a develop a team of Data Engineers located in Hungary, USA and Denmark
• Make a roadmap for how Nilfisk New Data platform supports decisions globally in Nilfisk within the next 3-4 years   
• Collaborate closely with the rest of the Data and Business Analytics team, with other stakeholders in IT as well as setting a clear direction for co-development with other departments
• Act as the hands-on Databricks expert who sets the direction for how to develop and run scalable data products through structured platform administration, release management and Lakehouse development
• Focus on simplifying and standardizing the data solution landscape in Nilfisk to offer a more sustainable and modern data platform with high transparency on cost

Qualifications to Succeed in the Position

To succeed in this role, you bring a strong track record and solid experience with the data engineering tech stack and set clear engineering standards across the full lifecycle, from ingestion and transformation to deployment and operations, ensuring high availability and security.

We also expect that you know how to design and run end‑to‑end data pipelines into a Data Platform with robust operational procedures, while leading key architectural decisions across data modelling, pipeline design, and platform capabilities to support both analytical and operational needs

As a person, you are a strong team player who collaborates easily across functions and cultures, while also being comfortable taking the lead when needed. You are outgoing and engaged, with a genuine interest in understanding the business and translating technology into tangible business impact and long‑term value.

We expect you to be a strong technical leader with several years of hands‑on experience working with Databricks and modern data engineering practices. You bring solid knowledge of enterprise environments, preferably with experience across multiple ERP systems, including SAP—ideally SAP ECC and SAP BW - and understand how to build robust data solutions on top of complex core systems.

Experience with data platform modernization is considered a strong advantage, including a proven ability to simplify complex data solution landscapes. You ideally bring experience in identifying and realizing business value from data initiatives, as well as driving cost optimizations through improved architectures, standardization, and more efficient use of data platforms.
