SALES ASSISTANT TRAINEE

Are you passionate about interior design, furniture, lighting and accessories? Have you completed - or about to complete - an EUD, EUX, HG, HF, HHX, HTX or STX with good results? Are you looking to kickstart your career in retail and develop strong sales and customer service skills within an international design company?

At HAY House, our flagship store located on Strøget in the heart of Copenhagen, you will join a dedicated retail team consisting of both full-time and part-time colleagues. Together, the team ensures that our customers receive the best possible guidance and experience when visiting the store.

You will become part of a professional and youthful environment where collaboration, customer experience and passion for design are central.

The traineeship starts 1 September 2026 and runs for two years.

Being a Trainee at HAY

As a Sales Assistant Trainee at HAY, you are considered a full member of the HAY House team and take part in the daily operation of the store from day one. Your traineeship combines theory and practice, with your daily work based at HAY House and theoretical training taking place at a business college of your choosing, depending on your specialization. You will receive a salary throughout the entire traineeship.

During the programme, you will develop strong competencies within retail, sales and customer experience while gaining deep product knowledge of HAY’s furniture, lighting and accessories collections. After graduation, there may be opportunities to continue your career with HAY.

About the Sales Assistant Trainee position

As a trainee in HAY House, you will work closely with your colleagues to ensure that our customers receive professional guidance and a welcoming store experience.

Your daily responsibilities will include:

  • Daily customer contact, including guidance, furniture sales and cash handling
  • Refilling shelves and ensuring products are presented according to store standards
  • Supporting the daily maintenance of the store and ensuring the store always appears welcoming and well-organised
  • Sharing knowledge about HAY and our products to inspire customers and create sales opportunities
  • Supporting colleagues in delivering strong sales results and consistent customer experience

  • You are service-minded and enjoy interacting with customers
  • You are curious about sales and motivated to learn how to create great customer experiences
  • You take initiative and contribute positively to the daily tasks in the store
  • You are responsible, structured and pay attention to detail
  • You thrive in a team environment and contribute to a positive atmosphere in the store

Experience required

  • Completed EUX, EUD or HG, or HHX/STX/HTX/HF combined with a 5–10 week retail foundation course
  • An interest in furniture, lighting and accessories
  • Experience from retail or similar customer-facing roles is a bonus
