Senior R&D Portfolio Finance Analyst

Do you have experience in the intersection of Finance and R&D in Pharma/biotech, and want to lead the financial management of early molecules/projects in Lundbeck’s pipeline - and be the link between Group Finance and the early part of our R&D engine? Your focus would be on the early-stage research portfolio, which includes projects up to and including the decision to enter Phase 1.

As the primary finance lead for these projects, you get to collaborate closely with senior management and the SVP of Global Research to ensure robust financial oversight both for internal projects and external collaborations. You will own and drive recurrent reporting, planning, and performance management for these areas, and support decision-making, which includes analyses of trade-offs (involving cost, risk, value, timelines etc.) within and between projects.

Your new role

This is the opportunity to apply and expand your existing knowledge of financial planning and performance management both at the project and the portfolio level. You will independently be a financial advisor to several of our early stage molecules, as well as provide cross-portfolio support where needed.

• Develop and maintain strong partnerships with cross-functional teams for Global Research (eg Research to phase 1), including having direct dialogue with senior stakeholders (e.g. Global Project Lead, Global Project Manager, SVPs) as relevant across R&D, Finance and CMC.
• Develop presentations and reports, both verbal and written, to communicate R&D financials to senior leadership and relevant stakeholders, e.g. for governance interactions. Drive the monthly/quarterly/annual reporting for the areas in question, being the business partner for Global Research Project Teams.
• Being part of Lundbeck, with our full R&D value chain, you will also get involved in leading several initiatives across R&D Finance, Group Finance, and the R&D organization, along with your dedicated colleagues.

Your future team

Group Finance at Lundbeck is in Valby and we are around 60 employees in total, of which 8-9 support Research and Development around three main tasks: financials around pipeline and portfolio projects, project valuation/investment decision support, and controlling of capacity/fixed cost. You will join the pipeline and project finance team of team 4-5 people. We collaborate closely with other parts of Group Finance, as well as the R&D organization, including CMC. The position is based in Valby, Denmark; primarily office-based, with limited possibility for remote work.

What you bring to the team

• A relevant master's degree (economics, business, engineering or similar) and 3+ years' experience within the area of R&D, and/or R&D decision support and/or R&D finance and/or financial innovation management from the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry.
• Experience and interest in decision making in R&D, as well as monitoring/tracking how plans develop over time. Ability to “bilingually translate” R&D terms into financials and vice versa and have comfortability in an environment where R&D expects to get business-oriented finance support.
• Ability to work independently with a critical sense, an analytical mindset and ability to communicate holistically or go into details as needed depending on the situation and audience.
• Experience with planning systems (e.g. Planisware) and financial system reporting solutions is an advantage - as is experience with using/making valuations, and/or exposure to pipeline and portfolio management.
• Proficient in spoken and written English.
