Then you might be our new colleague.

As our Lead Data Engineer, you will architect, design, and enable the future of our data ecosystem to enable next‑generation analytics, AI-driven automation, and autonomous digital capabilities across the organization.

This is a role for someone who combines advanced technical skill with strategic thinking — someone who wants to build not just pipelines, but an entire data platform that becomes a business differentiator.

The team you will be part of:

At our global HQ, located in Ballerup, Denmark, you will join the global Data Foundation team and report to the Head of Department, Neeti Tewary.

You will work in a hybrid work environment with colleagues located across the world, as part of our global Digital, Data and IT (DDI) organisation.

Your contribution is appreciated, and you will:

  • Shape and evolve GN’s end‑to‑end data platform architecture across batch, streaming, hybrid, and OneLake‑based domain data products.

  • Set enterprise data and architecture standards for all data types, including modelling, readiness zones, privacy, and controls.

  • Define foundational patterns for advanced AI/ML enablement, including RAG, real‑time features, vector indexing, and graph‑augmented reasoning.

  • Establish standards for reliability and governance, covering observability, telemetry, lineage, quality gates, and auditability.

  • Lead, mentor, and align teams across Product, Platform, and ML to ensure cohesive roadmaps and architectural decision-making.

To thrive in the role, we imagine that you have:

  • 10–15+ years building and evolving enterprise-scale distributed data platforms

  • Demonstrated capability to shape architecture across domains and encourage widespread adoption through collaboration

  • Cloud experience (Azure preferred; other clouds accepted)

  • Batch + streaming experience (Spark, Kafka/Event Hubs, Flink, etc.) and hybrid real-time + analytical architectures

  • Practical knowledge of semantic modeling, embeddings, knowledge graphs, and vector search; experience with retrieval-augmented context enrichment/orchestration patterns

  • Advanced governance and observability experience (quality frameworks, access control, lineage, compliance, auditability)

  • Engineering foundation: Python/Java/Scala, Spark/PySpark, SQL optimization, performance tuning

  • Clear, executive-level communication and stakeholder alignment skills.

  • Rational approach to problem solving in combination with a curiosity and a learning mindset.

Candidates with experience within these platform stacks are encouraged to apply

  • Microsoft Fabric (OneLake/Lakehouse/Warehouse), ADLS, Spark.

  • Purview.

  • Git-based CI/CD and release gates.

  • Azure AI Search-style indexing patterns.

  • RBAC/ABAC, managed identities, audit logs, PII-safe views/masking.

On an individual level, we expect you to bring a strategic mindset—capable of balancing long-term vision with pragmatic, scalable technical choices. You also have a collaborative, mentoring approach to working with engineering teams. You can also navigate a complex, global organisation with many stakeholders and shifting priorities.
