The product owner is responsible for managing and optimizing the product backlog in order to maximize the value of the product. The product owner collaborates closely with the development team and functions as a liaison between the development team and the other stakeholders in the organization that are providing input (change requests and feature requests) to the product development teams.
Duties and responsibilities
- Collaborates with global commercial partners and customers to co-develop a roadmap and drive products and features from concept to launch in a fast-paced environment.
- Continuously reviews the business needs, refines priorities, outlines milestones and deliverables, and identifies opportunities and risks
- Partners with stakeholders and customers across the organization to inform the product vision, strategy, features, and prioritization
- Is a key contributor to the development of the product roadmap.
- Works with user-focused departments to define the user experience (the user journeys for the respective users)
- Translates product roadmap features into well-defined product requirements including features, user stories, and acceptance criteria
- Defines the sprint goal and makes sure the team keeps focus on the goal throughout the sprint
- Prioritizes and maintains the sprint backlog for assigned products, balancing the requirements of stakeholders
- Leads the product functional design process based on an intimate knowledge of the users and technology
- Facilitates demonstration of new features to customers and internal stakeholders (in form of sprint demos, product updates) and channels feedback from both internal and external stakeholders to the product development team backlog
- Is responsible for communicating the contents of the releases to customers via release notes, product updates etc.
Competencies, Traits and Experience
To perform this job successfully, the Product Owner must be willing and able to perform each essential responsibility satisfactorily:
- Bachelor’s Degree in marketing, business, or engineering, with a strong mechanical aptitude - MBA is a plus.
- Ten years of experience in the software development industry.
- Must understand, apply and communicate fitness industry concepts.
- Ability to apply project management skills effectively to teams.
- Ability to balance changing demands on resources and priorities.
