Role Overview
The Material Planner is responsible for managing the flow of materials across data centre sites, ensuring inventory levels are optimised, RMAs are processed efficiently, and supply chain operations align with service delivery and infrastructure demands. This role plays a critical part in maintaining uptime and operational continuity across hyperscale environments.
Core Responsibilities
- Inventory Management
- Maintain optimal inventory levels using min/max thresholds to prevent shortages and overstocking.
- Balance inventory holding costs against supply chain risks and service continuity requirements.
- Inventory Movement & RMAs
- Coordinate inbound and outbound material flows across multiple data centre locations.
- Manage RMA workflows including initiation, tracking, and resolution of returned materials.
- Ensure accurate documentation and physical validation of inventory locations.
- Forecasting Demand
- Analyse historical usage and consumption trends to predict future material needs.
- Align inventory levels with production schedules and service forecasts.
- Supplier Coordination
- Collaborate with procurement teams and suppliers to ensure timely delivery of materials.
- Negotiate terms and manage potential supply chain disruptions.
- Order & Shipment Coordination
- Plan and coordinate the flow of materials to meet delivery expectations.
- Oversee the shipment of finished goods and critical spares to internal and external customers.
- System Management
- Use planning and material management client software to update demand information, track inventory, and maintain accurate records.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with production, purchasing, finance, and operations teams to address sudden changes in demand and ensure operational efficiency.
- Reporting & Compliance
- Generate inventory health reports and participate in cycle counts and audits.
- Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and quality standards.

- Analytical Skills: Ability to interpret data and refine inventory strategies.
- Organisational Skills: Capable of managing multiple tasks and maintaining precise records.
- Technical Proficiency: Skilled in Microsoft Office, ERP systems, and planning software.
- Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication for internal and external coordination.
- Logistics & Supply Chain Knowledge: Understanding of manufacturing processes, inventory management, and import/export documentation.
