Teach undergraduate students from North American universities who are spending a semester studying in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Explore how companies evaluate their financial status, make choices about debt and equity, and utilize the financial markets. Topics include time value of money, understanding the profit and loss statement and balance sheet, capital structure, debt financing, equity financing, valuation methods, mergers and acquisitions, leveraged buy-outs, stock market ratios, corporate governance, and risk management. Students become familiar with not only the theoretical basis of corporate finance but with the practical problems and multiple consequences of financial decisions through analyzing European case studies.

Tasks

  • Prepare and facilitate teaching and experiential learning activities

Professional competencies and skills

  • Master’s degree in Finance a requirement (PhD preferred)
  • Professional experience working or teaching within the overall topic of the course
  • Proficient in English language
  • Experience with teaching is preferred, but not required
  • Openness to pedagogical support from DIS
  • Ability to be legally employed in Denmark (this position does not come with a work visa)

Teaching requirements

This is a part-time teaching position, so faculty are welcome to continue their full-time work while teaching. Salary is based on an AC Agreement. Faculty are expected to work approximately 10 hr/week at DIS with the following breakdown:

  • Teaching: 80 minutes, twice a week. This course takes place Tuesdays and Fridays from 8:30 – 9:50. This schedule is set for the spring 2026 semester but can be modified for future semesters.
  • Preparation and grading: 7 hours a week
  • Field Studies: two 3-hour Field Studies will occur during the semester

Materials from the current syllabus are available (both readings and in-class teaching materials). There will be opportunity to sit in on the current semester’s course for preparation. It is possible to cover some course topics with guest lectures.

Start date

Semester runs from early January to mid-May. Training and onboarding are planned on an individual basis. There will also be an opportunity to continue teaching the same course in future semesters.

Teaching at DIS

Students are typically in their third year of university. Courses are all taught in English.

Pedagogical support, training, and mentorship is available at DIS through the Learning Lab and experienced faculty; faculty are encouraged to collaborate with academic support staff in various professional development opportunities.
