Department of Health Technology (DTU Health Tech) at The Technical University of Denmark (DTU), invites applications for a postdoc position in the field of NMR spectroscopy and microfluidics.

We are seeking a highly specialized postdoctoral researcher to lead a unique project at the intersection of microphysiological systems (“organ-on-a-chip”) and hyperpolarized nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy. The successful candidate will have demonstrated expertise in both microfluidic tissue culture platforms and advanced hyperpolarized NMR techniques for metabolic and functional imaging. This position offers the opportunity to develop cutting-edge platforms for real-time monitoring of human tissue metabolism in physiologically relevant models.

You will play a key role in our dedicated team, working in a state-of-the-art core facility in infection microbiology. It is important to us that you are a team player with openness to interdisciplinary research. You will be working with researchers from diverse backgrounds, including microbiology, NMR spectroscopy, physics, and electrical engineering. Together, we are exploring new methodologies and technologies to push the boundaries of infection biology research.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, fabricate, and operate organ-on-a-chip models for intestinal and hepatic tissues.
  • Implement hyperpolarized NMR spectroscopy protocols to monitor dynamic metabolic processes within microfluidic systems.
  • Integrate microfluidic platforms with NMR hardware, including fluidics interfacing, probe adaptation, and spectral acquisition optimization.
  • Analyze metabolic data and correlate NMR readouts with physiological function.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD in Bioengineering, Chemistry, Biophysics, or a related field.
  • Extensive hands-on experience with organ-on-a-chip or microfluidic tissue culture systems with focus on intestinal or hepatic epithelial models.
  • Proficiency in hyperpolarized NMR spectroscopy.
  • Experience integrating live-cell platforms with high-field NMR instruments.
  • Strong data analysis skills for interpreting metabolic NMR datasets.
  • Knowledge of stable isotope tracing and metabolic flux analysis.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

Why This Position is Unique:
The ideal candidate will be comfortable bridging microfluidics, tissue engineering, and sophisticated NMR methodologies to answer questions about tissue metabolism that cannot be addressed by conventional approaches.
