Investment Teams: Fund Strategies
The Flagship Funds invest in renewable energy infrastructure in OECD countries with the objective of generating attractive risk-adjusted returns and long-term cash flows with low correlation to the business cycle. The latest Flagship Fund (CI V) became the world’s largest green infrastructure fund when it closed at over EUR 12bn in March 2025, and currently CIP is fundraising the sixth Flagship Fund (CI VI) with a target fund size of EUR 16bn.
The Growth Market Funds (GMF) invest in renewable energy infrastructure in high-growth middle-income markets with strong fundamentals for renewable development and significant impact potential. The funds target markets across Asia, Latin America and EMEA with strong fundamentals for renewable energy infrastructure investments with a combination of high economic and demographic growth including an expanding middle class leading to an accelerating electricity demand. GMF II was launched in December 2023 and is currently fundraising for a USD 3bn target size. You will be joining a sub-team that focuses on investment opportunities in the Indian market.
The Energy Transition Fund (ETF) invests in next generation renewable energy infrastructure including industrial scale Power-to-X (PtX) projects and enables institutional investors to participate in the decarbonization of the so-called hard to abate industries such as shipping, steel production, and agriculture through the use of green fuels and feedstock and CO2-free fertilizers. The fund will primarily focus on greenfield projects in Western Europe, North America, Australia and developed Asian countries. CI ETF I reached final close on EUR 3bn in August 2022 and is the largest dedicated clean hydrogen fund globally.
The Advanced Bioenergy Fund (ABF) invests in advanced bioenergy infrastructure in Europe and enables institutional investors to contribute to energy security and energy transition in hard-to-abate sectors, with biomethane being a key driver for European decarbonization. Investments are based on sustainable feedstocks such as agricultural waste and industrial biowaste, and offtake products are renewable natural gas (RNG) and liquified natural gas (bio-LNG). CI ABF II was launched in December 2025 and is currently fundraising for a EUR 1.5bn target size.
Copenhagen Energy Islands (CEI). Energy islands will be the next-generation energy infrastructure assets; a critical tool in reaching ambitious global decarbonization targets and delivering cost-efficient deployment and integration of large-scale renewable energy. Energy islands, or energy hubs, are multifunctional energy infrastructure projects, involving large-scale renewable energy production and power conversion technologies. Copenhagen Energy Islands (CEI) is responsible for developing and structuring these projects.
