Do you want to work at the heart of medical device innovation - where engineering, digital tools, and AI come together? As our new (Junior) Application Engineer, you will help shape how 3Shape’s Product Creation (R&D) teams work by becoming an expert in IT Application management, related automations, and AI agents that power product development.

About the role

You’ll be joining Product Creation Excellence (PCE) - the team that continuously elevates R&D by improving processes, tools, and capabilities, empowering our colleagues to collaborate efficiently and meet changing customer needs.

Joining the team, you will learn how regulated digital development works in medical devices. You will become part of a multicultural, ambitious and highly collaborate R&D environment, where you will get to build structure, solve technical problems and overall support the R&D agenda. Likewise, you will gain rare and sought‑after experience in combining IT systems, compliance, automation, and AI to support high‑quality medical device development.

This is the role for you if you’re motivated by:

  • Bridging business needs with solutions and better ways of working

  • Being the technical expert in maintaining, optimizing, and integrating our applications/tools

  • Becoming the technical expert of Jama Connect, our core Requirement, Test, and Risk management application

  • Working hands-on with AI, AI Agents, and Microsoft Copilot to automate processes and enhance efficiency

  • Supporting integration activities and dialogues with technical experts from tool vendors

  • Assisting in validation activities and digital compliance documentation

  • Analyzing system usage and proposing optimizations

Scope

You will be part of PCE’s “Tools & Data” area, working closely with engineers, quality specialists, and Group IT. Overall, we focus on:

  • Helping to shape the general tooling landscape and how we work with tools

  • Jama Connect – requirements, test, risk management, and digital traceability

  • AI Automation – using Copilot, custom AI agents, maybe Azure Foundry, and scripting to improve user workflows or collect data needed in analysis

  • System integrations & data flows – enabling tools to talk to each other more effectively

Role and Ideal Profile

For this role, we are looking for candidates with an engineering background and natural curiosity to specialize in R&D tooling and digital engineering workflows. You might have worked with IT systems in a regulated industry (MedTech, Pharma), or you’re eager to learn about this world. You are curious, structured, technically minded, and motivated by understanding how tools, users, and processes fit together. You enjoy talking to end users and thrive when you can translate real user needs into clear, usable solutions, bridging between technology and people.

For this role, we welcome candidates at different seniority levels. What matters most to us is the right mindset, curiosity, and motivation to grow in the role. Should you be in the final stages of your degree, we encourage you to apply.

Hard skills

  • Interest in understanding stakeholders and business requirements

  • Basic programming or scripting (Python, JavaScript, C#, or similar) - used for building automations, reports, and AI workflows

  • Interest in AI, ML, and Copilot‑based automation - you may actively be part of building and maintaining AI‑driven support solutions and agents

  • Understanding or interest in APIs, integrations, and data flows - enabling technical troubleshooting and improvement of tool ecosystems

  • Interest in digital work in regulated environments (Computerized System Validation, ISO13485) - you will support documentation and compliance activities

Soft skills

  • You enjoy building structure and improving how systems work, helping others succeed through tools and guidance

  • You are proactive and take responsibility for your own tasks

  • You can communicate clearly with diverse stakeholders and translate technical insights into actionable guidance

  • You are curious and analytical, always seeking to understand "why”

  • You like compiling documented procedures that help others to get things done and align our way of working
